The text here is notoriously difficult. The word often rendered "with ease" (מְנוּחָה, *menuhah*) may function as a place name—"Menuhah"—or carry the sense of a "resting place," yielding the reading that they were cut down without pause or respite. The phrase "toward the sunrise" (*neged ha-mizrah*) marks the direction of the rout eastward.
