The verb זָנָה (*zanah*) in the Masoretic Text normally denotes sexual unfaithfulness. The Septuagint, however, reads ὠργίσθη αὐτῷ — "she was angry with him" — reflecting a variant Hebrew tradition. The ambiguity is theologically and morally significant: if the MT *zanah* stands, she has wronged him; if the LXX reading is followed, she is a woman exercising the only autonomy available to her — and the Levite is the one who drove her away. FOG follows the MT; FOG Message follows the LXX, inviting a more sympathetic reading of this unnamed woman who will shortly bear the full weight of the narrative's horror.
