It is Jean Paul's lifelong work, unfolding in public — and you're invited in.

יְבוּס (*Yebus*) is the Canaanite name for the city later conquered by David and renamed the City of David — Yerushalayim, Jerusalem (2 Sam. 5:6–9). The narrator's parenthetical gloss links the pre-Israelite city to its future glory. The bitter irony is structural: the Levite refuses "foreign" Jebus and presses on to Gibeah, a city of his own people — only to encounter a darkness worse than any attributed to the Canaanites. FOG retains both the Hebrew name and the gloss; FOG Message uses the familiar English equivalents.
