בְּהַר הָעֲמָלֵקִי (*b'har ha-Amaleqi*) — 'in the hill country of the Amalekites.' This geographic marker is striking: Pirathon is in Ephraim, yet the highland region is still identified by its former Amalekite occupants. The phrase preserves a cartographic memory — ancient texts commonly named territories by their prior inhabitants long after displacement (cf. Judg. 5:14, which also links Ephraim's terrain with Amalek). The detail carries a quiet theological resonance: Israel now buries its judges — the bearers of covenant life — in land wrested from its most ancient nemesis. The closing of Abdon's entry in Amalekite soil is the narrator's understated way of saying: even Israel's graveyards are trophies of YHWH's faithfulness.
