Dan's situation is uniquely reversed — they are not merely failing to displace the Kena'ani; they are being actively confined by them. The verb לָחַץ (lahatz, 'pressed/squeezed') is the same root later used for Israel's oppression under foreign rulers (Judges 2:18; 4:3) — Dan experiences, within their own allotted territory, the very shape of exile. This compression will eventually force the tribe's migration northward (Judges 18), and their territorial instability colours Samson's entire tragic-heroic arc.
