φθείρονται is a present passive — "they are being destroyed/corrupted" — the ruin is not merely future but already underway. ἄλογα ζῷα ("unreasoning/irrational animals") is built on the negation of λόγος — reason and word — the faculty that distinguished humanity from beasts in Greco-Roman philosophy. For Jude to call the false teachers ἄλογα is to say they have surrendered the very capacity that makes them human.
