The four Gibeonite cities lie in the Benjaminite hill country, a mere day's march from the Gilgal camp — and the list will reappear in the tribal allotments (Josh. 18:25–28). Giv'on itself becomes a major cult site: the Tabernacle will be pitched there in the days of David and Solomon (1 Chron. 16:39; 1 Kings 3:4–5), meaning the Gibeonite woodcutters and water-carriers will serve at the very centre of Israelite worship. Their deception ironically positions them at the heart of Israel's sacred geography. FOG preserves the Hebrew place-names; FOG Message uses the traditional English forms.
