The wordplay on *cherem* is stark and intentional: the Hebrew repeats the root three times in a single verse. The warning is not merely legal but ontological—holiness is contagious in Hebrew thought. What belongs wholly to YHWH cannot be absorbed into ordinary life without catastrophic consequence. This verse explicitly anticipates Achan's sin in Joshua 7, where he takes *from the cherem* and the entire camp suffers. FOG repeats *cherem* three times as the Hebrew does, preserving the escalating irony; FOG Message uses 'devoted to destruction' and 'the ban' for clarity.
