The place name *Gilgal* is a wordplay on *galloti* — "I have rolled" (from *גָּלַל*, galal). Yahweh Himself names the site in the very act of speaking, embedding the theological meaning into the physical landscape for every future generation. The "reproach of Egypt" (*cherpat Mitzrayim*) likely carries multiple layers — (1) the shame of slavery and degradation under Pharaoh; (2) the shame of resembling uncircumcised nations during the wilderness years; and (3) the taunt available to Egypt that Israel's God had brought them out only to let them die in the desert (cf. Exod. 32:12; Num. 14:13–16). With the covenant sign restored and the land within reach, YHWH rolls every layer of that shame away in one declaration. FOG renders *cherpa* as "reproach" to preserve the full honour-shame register of the ancient world; FOG Message uses "disgrace" for more immediate emotional force.
