For the Israelites had wandered through the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of fighting men who came out of Egypt had died. They had refused to obey the voice of Yahweh, and so Yahweh swore they would never see the land He had promised their ancestors — the land flowing with milk and honey — which He vowed to give to us.
For the children of Yisra'el had wandered in the wilderness forty years until all the nation — the warriors who had come out of Mitzrayim — had perished, because they had not listened to the voice of YHWH. For YHWH had sworn that He would not let them see the land that YHWH had sworn to their fathers to give us — a land flowing with milk and honey.
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
