This verse is the economic climax of the covenant recital: the land is pure gift, not wages. The threefold 'you did not' (*lo yaga'ta… lo vanita… lo nata'tem*) forms a rhythmic indictment of self-sufficiency. The fourfold provision—land, cities, vineyards, olive groves—echoes Deut. 6:10–11 almost verbatim, and both passages warn against the amnesia of abundance: when blessing feels normal, the Giver is forgotten. FOG uses 'laboured' to preserve the full weight of physical toil; FOG Message uses 'feast' rather than the flat 'eat' to capture the bounty implied by vineyards and olive groves in full harvest.
