*Geval* (Gebal) is Byblos, the great Phoenician coastal city renowned across the ancient Near East for its craftsmen—its stonecutters would later be conscripted by Solomon (1 Kgs. 5:32). Their continued independence signals that Israel's northern coast and the Phoenician corridor remained outside the conquest. *Levo-Hamat* ('the entrance of Hamath') is the traditional northern limit of the Promised Land (Num. 34:8; cf. Amos 6:14), making its appearance here a quiet reminder that the full covenantal territory was never claimed in Joshua's lifetime. FOG preserves the Hebrew place-name; FOG Message renders it 'entrance of Hamath' for geographical clarity.
