יְהוָה-אֱלֹהִים — the compound divine name is characteristic of Genesis 2–3 (the Garden narrative) and rare elsewhere, likely signalling a deliberate echo of Eden — the original garden where a human sat under divine provision, only to lose it. קִיקָיוֹן (qiqayon) is of uncertain identity: the LXX reads κολοκύνθη (gourd), Jerome's Vulgate has hedera (ivy), but most modern scholars identify it as Ricinus communis (the castor oil plant), which grows explosively fast and spreads broad, shading leaves. F.O.G retains "qiqayon" to avoid false precision; F.O.G Message uses "leafy plant" to convey its function without committing to a species. מֵרָעָתוֹ — "from his ra'ah" — extends the book's running ra'ah wordplay into this very act of divine mercy.
