κρίμα (krima) = “judgment/verdict/decisive crisis” — Yeshua’s entry into the world creates a κρίσις, a sifting. This is not a contradiction of John 3:17 but its necessary complement: the light that reveals also exposes. The entire chapter acts this out — the man who confessed his blindness received sight; those who claimed sight revealed their blindness. F.O.G. Message adds “think they see” to make the self-deception explicit.
