The Greek "μείνητε" (from μένω, menō) is a cornerstone of Johannine theology, meaning to abide, dwell, remain, or stay—but with the sense of settled, rooted, relational indwelling rather than merely passive continuation. FOG uses "abide" to preserve this covenantal and mystical texture (the same verb recurs in John 15: "Abide in Me, and I in you"); FOG Message uses "remain" for more accessible contemporary English. Neither fully captures μένω's sense of mutual belonging—to abide in His word is not merely to persist in belief but to make His word one's permanent dwelling place.
