The Greek paidarion is a diminutive — a small boy, not a young man. The opsaria are likewise diminutives, referring to small dried or pickled fish used as a relish-condiment with bread, the common fare of the poor. Both words underscore the absurd scarcity of the provision against the vast need, heightening the miraculous contrast.
