Some ancient interpreters saw allegorical weight in the five husbands, corresponding to the five foreign nations Assyria settled in Shomron, each bringing their own gods (2 Kings 17:24–41). On this reading, Shomron's history of adulterous worship — chasing foreign deities while never truly belonging to YHWH — is mirrored in the woman's personal history. The FOG Message lightly invites this typological reading through covenant imagery in the surrounding context, but neither version imposes it. The plain narrative force — Yeshua's supernatural knowledge — is the primary thrust.
