John uses the same verb "πιστεύω" (pisteuō) for both the crowd's "believing in His name" (v.23) and Yeshua's/Jesus's "not entrusting Himself" (v.24), creating a sharp wordplay: many placed their trust (pisteuō) in Him, but He did not give His trust (pisteuō) back to them, exposing the shallowness of faith built solely on signs; the F.O.G renders the contrast with a semicolon to keep both within reach, while the F.O.G Message uses a dash, letting v.25 serve as the explanatory clause that completes the thought.
