γύναι — "Woman" — not a term of disrespect in Greek, but a formal, somewhat distancing mode of address. It is the precise word Yeshua uses at the wedding in Cana (John 2:4), where His hour "had not yet come." His hour has now come. The address also echoes Genesis 3:15 — "I will put enmity between you and the woman" — inviting the reader to see Miryam as the new Eve, and the scene at the cross as the culmination of the promise made in the Garden. Both versions preserve "Woman" so that this intertextual thread remains audible.
