ῥάπισμα (rapisma) = a blow with the open hand or a rod across the face. This moment fulfils Isaiah 50:6 ('I gave my cheeks to those who struck Me') — the Suffering Servant passage that shapes John's passion theology throughout. Yeshua's composed legal reply rather than retaliation is itself a sign of the character of His kingship.
