glōssokomon (v.6): Literally a case for holding reed-instrument mouthpieces, repurposed here as a money chest or purse. The word carries a subtle irony—the keeper of what should sustain life is secretly draining it. The verb ebastazen ("was carrying") is the same word John will use in 19:17 for Jesus carrying His own cross—a quiet, wordless contrast between a servant who steals what he carries and a Master who pours out what He carries.
