Footnotes
תַּעֲרֹג (ta'arog, "pants/cries out") is the identical root used in Psalm 42:1 — "As a deer pants (ta'arog) for flowing streams." In Joel, it is the wild animals of the field directing this yearning cry toward YHWH. The echo is profound: all creation — animal and human alike — is portrayed as reaching in thirst toward its Creator, framing the entire chapter's call to repentance within the wider hunger of the cosmos itself.
