The sudden shift to first person (אֶקְרָא, "I cry") marks Yo'el breaking from prophetic description into personal lament — the prophet himself is undone. The imagery of fire alongside the locust plague is striking; some scholars see a literal drought-driven fire, while others read it as metaphorical intensification deliberately anticipating Joel 2's fire-and-darkness apocalyptic imagery.
