Verse 17 contains some of the most lexically difficult words in the Hebrew Bible. פְרֻדוֹת (perudot, "seeds/grains") and מֶגְרְפֹתֵיהֶם (megrefoteihem) are both hapax legomena — appearing nowhere else in the Old Testament. מֶגְרְפֹתֵיהֶם likely refers to farming implements (shovels, hoes) or the clods of earth turned by them. F.O.G. renders "shovels" and F.O.G. Message "clods" to reflect this genuine lexical ambiguity.
