*Messos darko* (מְשׂוֹשׂ דַּרְכּוֹ), "the joy of his way," is almost certainly ironic — Bildad gestures at the vanished man's life and says: *that* is what his much-vaunted prosperity amounted to. *Messos* (joy, exultation) is the same word used for genuine celebration elsewhere; here its use for a life that has evaporated reads as bitter sarcasm. FOG signals the irony with quotation marks around "joy"; FOG Message uses italicised repetition of "this" to convey the contemptuous gesture. Both preserve the irony without inserting words not in the text.
