All three names evoke luminous beauty and fragrance. *Yemimah* derives from *yom* (day) — 'bright as daylight' — or possibly the Aramaic for 'dove,' evoking purity and radiance. *Qetziah* is cassia, the fragrant bark spice related to cinnamon, used in the sacred anointing oil (Ex. 30:24) and in Psalm 45:8 to perfume the messianic king's garments. *Qeren-Happukh* — 'horn of kohl' — refers to the antimony pigment container used to beautify the eyes; it speaks of striking, dark-eyed radiance. That the daughters are named while the seven sons remain anonymous is almost without parallel in biblical narrative — the text makes the daughters its final statement on what the restored world looks like.
