*Lapidim* (לַפִּידִים) — torches — are the same fiery instruments seen at Sinai (Exodus 20:18) and in Abram's covenant vision (Genesis 15:17), where YHWH Himself passes through the pieces as a smoking fire-pot and blazing torch. The fire-imagery places Leviathan in the register of theophany — except here it is the creature's breath, not the Creator's presence. *Kiydodei esh* (כִּידוֹדֵי אֵשׁ) — 'sparks of fire' — the root *kiydod* suggests something darting or skipping; the sparks do not merely fall but leap out. Both translations render the dynamism; the intertextual fire-of-Sinai connection is noted here.
