*Mippi-tzar* — literally 'from the mouth of distress' — images affliction as a devouring maw. The antithesis *rachav* ('broad/spacious') against *tzar* ('tight/narrow/distress') is a classic Hebrew spatial metaphor for salvation (cf. Ps. 18:19; 31:8). To be saved is to be brought into *rachav* — open, unconfined, breathing room. FOG preserves 'mouth of distress'; FOG Message renders 'jaws of distress' for visceral impact and 'lured' to capture the seductive drawing-out implied by the verb.
