*Nephesh* (rendered in FOG as the transliterated term) encompasses far more than the English 'soul.' Its root meaning is 'throat' — the seat of breath, appetite, and vital being — and extends to mean the whole animated self. To say their *nephesh* dies is to say their entire living personhood is extinguished prematurely. *Qedeshim* (plural of *qadesh*, 'consecrated/set-apart one') denotes males associated with pagan cult worship, often in sexually degrading roles. The bitter irony: those who refused consecration to YHWH end their days among those consecrated to shame. FOG preserves *nephesh* and 'cult-consecrated'; FOG Message uses the historically contextual 'male shrine prostitutes.'
