The phrase *צִדְקִי מֵאֵל* (tsidqi me'El) is governed by the preposition *מִן* (min), which can be both comparative ('more than') and positional ('before'). This gives it a biting double edge: either Job is claiming his righteousness exceeds God's, or he is asserting his righteous standing before God's court. Elihu almost certainly intends the harsher reading as a rhetorical challenge. FOG renders the comparative to preserve Elihu's sharpest accusation; FOG Message draws out the courtroom register, since the legal drama of Job's 'case before God' is the book's animating tension.
