Footnotes
Gduday (His troops/bands/forces) is military vocabulary—the celestial hosts conceived as a vast standing army. The rhetorical question implies an innumerable host beyond human reckoning. Or (light) is deliberately ambiguous: it may refer to natural daylight from which no one hides, or to the divine illuminating gaze from which no creature escapes—both readings are valid and mutually reinforcing. F.O.G. renders 'forces' to preserve the military connotation; F.O.G.M. uses 'armies' and intensifies with 'numberless' to make the rhetorical force visceral.
