Verse 29 is among the most contested in the chapter. The Hebrew *ki-hishpilu va-tomar gevah* (כִּי-הִשְׁפִּילוּ וַתֹּאמֶר גֵּוָה) admits two plausible readings: (1) 'When they are humbled, you will say there is lifting up/exaltation' — i.e., the restored Iyov becomes a voice of hope to the fallen (KJV tradition); or (2) 'When men are cast down, you say it is because of pride' — i.e., Eliphaz accuses Iyov of callous moralising (ESV tradition). FOG follows the first reading, taking *gevah* as 'lifting up' or 'there is exaltation,' preserving the hopeful register. FOG Message renders the restored man as an active voice of encouragement to others — 'Rise up!' — anticipating Iyov's intercessory role in the epilogue (42:8–10).
