נָדִיב (*nadiv*, "nobleman/generous one") has a rich semantic range: the socially noble, the generously willing-hearted, even the morally magnanimous—the same word used of the freewill-offering heart in Exodus 25:2 and 35:5. The friends cite the collapse of the wicked man's house as observable evidence of divine judgement. Job counters (vv.29–33) that testimony from those who actually travel the world tells the opposite story. FOG uses "nobleman" to honour the aristocratic register; FOG Message uses "great man" for natural readability.
