In the ancient Near East, to have one's name spoken aloud—by descendants, in genealogies, carved in stone—was a form of continued existence. To have 'no name in the street' (*chuts*, חוּץ—the open, public space of communal life) is to suffer the ultimate social death: erasure from the memory of the living. FOG uses 'open street' to preserve the physical, ground-level communal space; FOG Message renders *chuts* as 'public square,' evoking the civic, memorial dimension of the loss.
