The question closely echoes Proverbs 8:22–25, where Wisdom declares she was "brought forth before the hills." The verb *cholalat* ("were you brought forth") uses the same root as birth-pangs (*chil*)—suggesting a cosmic nativity. Eliphaz's sarcasm is rich: only someone present at creation could speak with Job's confidence.
