The agricultural images are precisely timed to the moment of failed promise: *bisr* is the sour, unripe grape—not yet a fruit, merely the early green cluster. The olive blossom falls before it can set into fruit. Both images speak of premature termination—life that begins but cannot complete its arc. Viticulture and olive cultivation were the twin pillars of ancient Near Eastern agriculture, making these visceral pictures of ruined livelihoods rather than abstract metaphors. There may be an ironic echo of the Song of Songs' vine-and-blossom imagery (2:13), now inverted: instead of flourishing love and harvest, aborted abundance.
