The command *gozi nizrekh* ('shear your *nezer*!') is addressed in feminine singular imperatives throughout the verse — Jerusalem or Zion is being addressed as a woman, consistent with the 'daughter of Zion' personification throughout Yirmeyahu. The word *nezer* (from *nazar*, 'to consecrate, to separate') is the same term used for the Nazirite's uncut hair (Num. 6:7, 9) and the high priest's golden diadem (Exod. 29:6; Lev. 8:9). To cut and discard the *nezer* is to symbolically undo consecration — to un-dedicate what was holy, to reverse the vow of separation to YHWH. Combined with lamentation (*qinah*) on the *bare heights* (the very sites of illicit worship now abandoned as places of mourning), the image is of a total covenantal unravelling. FOG renders 'consecrated locks' to preserve the Nazirite allusion; FOG Message simplifies to 'hair' for readability, losing some of the sacrificial resonance.
