Shiloh was the location of the Tabernacle and the Ark during the Judges period — the central sanctuary before the Temple (cf. Josh. 18:1; 1 Sam. 1–4). Its destruction — likely by the Philistines ca. 1050 BCE and confirmed archaeologically — came as YHWH's response to priestly corruption and covenant faithlessness (1 Sam. 2–4; Ps. 78:60). For Yehudah, this was catastrophe living in cultural memory. YHWH's point is explosive: the Jerusalem Temple, like the Tabernacle before it, is not indestructible. The 'name theology' (*shem YHWH* dwelling in a place) is Deuteronomic (cf. Deut. 12:5, 11) and signals that divine presence is covenantally conditioned, not architecturally guaranteed.
