The *kavvanim* (כַּוָּנִים) were special ritual cakes made for the goddess cult, likely shaped or stamped in her image; the cognate Akkadian *kamānu* denotes a similar cultic offering in Mesopotamian worship. The women's defence is striking: they assert the idolatry was a communally sanctioned, household practice—the husbands knew and approved. FOG renders 'ritual cakes' to foreground cultic function; FOG Message uses 'sacred cakes' to emphasise the depth of religious devotion involved.
