The verb *buqqe'ah* (from *baqa'*, 'to split or tear open') is visceral — the city wall is violently ruptured, like a wineskin burst. The date (9th of Tammuz) became a Jewish fast day, later absorbed into the 9th of Av commemorations. FOG renders 'breached' as a military term that preserves the physical force; FOG Message uses 'broken open' to convey the raw, irreversible violence of the moment.
