He works from a personal encounter with Jesus first, then draws on the scholarship of respected Jewish and Christian scholars — because the church was Jewish before it was anything else, and those roots change everything about how you read Scripture.

The 'two families' (*mishpāḥôt*) refers to the houses of Israel and Judah—the northern and southern kingdoms, together constituting the whole elect people. The people's grief has curdled into theological cynicism: they project their own experience of abandonment onto YHWH, declaring His election null and void. YHWH rebukes this not with sentiment but with cosmology (vv. 25–26): the constancy of creation is the surety of election. This is a profound pastoral move—grounding covenant faithfulness in the observable order of the world so that every sunrise becomes a renewed pledge.
