The wood-to-iron escalation is a devastating reversal of Chananyah's sign-act. His gesture of liberation has produced the opposite of its intended effect—hardening rather than dissolving the bondage. Iron (*barzel*) was the metal of military supremacy in the ancient world, far stronger and more unbreakable than wood. The theological logic is stark: human manipulation of prophetic symbols does not alter divine purposes; it can only make outcomes more severe. Those who attempt to short-circuit YHWH's declared word by theatrical counter-performance accelerate the very judgment they sought to deny. FOG renders "bars of wood / bars of iron" to keep the stark parallel; FOG Message adds "forged" to bring out the deliberate, permanent craftsmanship implied by the Hebrew.
