Chananyah performs a counter-sign-act (*ot*) against Yirmeyahu's own enacted prophecy from ch. 27. In the ancient Near East, breaking a symbolic object was understood to enact the reality it represented—shattering the symbol was meant to shatter the reality. Chananyah is not making an argument; he is performing power. Yet the narrative will expose the decisive difference: enacted signs derive their authority from the divine word behind them, not from the performer's boldness or the crowd's applause. FOG follows the sober Hebrew closely; FOG Message adds "snatched" to bring out the aggression and theatrical drama implicit in the confrontation.
