Burial in the "graves of the common people" (*kivrot benei ha'am*) was a form of posthumous dishonour — denying the prophet a family tomb or any mark of distinction. For ancient Israelites, burial with one's ancestors was a profound covenantal expectation tied to promises of land, lineage, and continuity (cf. Gen. 47:29–30; 2 Kgs. 22:20). To deny it was to attempt erasure from memory. Compare Jeremiah 22:18–19, where the same king is himself prophesied to receive a donkey's burial — a poetic and covenantal reversal. Both FOG and FOG Message render the stark brutality without embellishment.
