The three mountain ridges form a mourning panorama encircling the land: Lvanon to the north, Bashan to the northeast, Abarim (the range including Nebo) to the east. The entire geography of Yisra'el's world is summoned to weep. מְאַהֲבִים (*me'ahabim*, lovers) is covenant-adultery language—the political alliances (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon at various points) that Yehudah pursued instead of trusting YHWH. FOG preserves "lovers" for the relational betrayal it implies; FOG Message uses "allies" for immediate comprehension, though it loses the adultery imagery.
