*Shichor* — likely the eastern branch of the Nile, its name meaning 'the dark' or 'turbid one.' Political treaties with Egypt and Assyria are rendered here as drinking choices — muddy foreign water versus the living spring of v.13. The irony is devastating: Israel, who drank from YHWH's own Fountain, now crawls to murky rivers. FOG preserves *Shichor* as a proper name to honour its specific geography; FOG Message renders it 'the dark Nile' to make the degradation viscerally felt.
