The prayer reaches its peak with three imperatives of non-forgiveness: *al-techaper* ('do not cover/atone'), *al-timcheh* ('do not blot out'), and 'let them stumble.' The word *kipper* — 'to cover/atone' — is the root of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Yirmeyahu is asking YHWH to withhold the very mechanism by which covenant sin is absorbed. This is breathtaking in its desperation and its covenantal logic: those who persecute YHWH's messenger while rejecting His word have placed themselves outside the covenant's mercy — not because YHWH cannot forgive, but because they will not turn. FOG's 'cover their iniquity' makes the atonement language visible; FOG Message's 'cover over their guilt' renders the same truth with emotional directness.
