The *'ayyelet* (doe/hind) is celebrated in Hebrew poetry for fierce maternal devotion — she is the archetype of the protective, nurturing mother (cf. the title of Ps. 22; Prov. 5:19). That even she abandons her young signals ecological and moral collapse of the most elemental kind. The scene is deliberately heartbreaking: when nature's own deepest instinct fails, it becomes a sign that something has gone catastrophically wrong in the relationship between Creator and creation. Both translations preserve the stark power of this natural image.
