The olive tree (*zayit ra'anan*—'fresh, living olive') was Israel's most prized agricultural symbol: long-lived, fruitful, yielding oil for worship, healing, and light. YHWH's naming of Israel as His olive tree (cf. Ps. 52:8) was a covenant declaration of beauty and fruitfulness. The abrupt shift to fire and shattered branches activates the covenant curse of Deuteronomy 28. Paul's olive tree metaphor in Romans 11:17–24 draws directly from this prophetic tradition, making this verse a crucial intertextual node between Jeremiah, Isaiah, and the Apostle's theology of Israel and the nations.
