The word translated 'Shame' or 'Disgrace' is *boshet* (בֹּשֶׁת), a deliberate scribal substitution for the divine title Baal—a polemical convention used throughout the Hebrew scriptures to express contempt for foreign worship (cf. the name Ish-bosheth for Ish-baal in 2 Sam. 2:8; and Jeremiah's own name Mephibosheth). By replacing Baal with *boshet* ('shame/disgrace'), the scribes encoded theological ridicule into the very text. FOG renders 'the Shame' to honour the wordplay and its subversive intent; FOG Message uses 'that Disgrace' for the same polemical punch with slightly more emotional register.
